Alessi Basket Metal Metal. Dimensions: Ø 21 x H 7.5 cm. The ''Il Tornitore Matto'' collection aims to highlight the ancient artisanal practice of metal turning for which Alessi has been renowned since 1921. To create this collection, Alberto Alessi called on the most creative designers, challenging them to create a series of objects using the ancient technology of metal turning. The Il Tornitore Matto collection places experimentation and freedom at the heart of the creative process. Designers are free to autonomously establish the rules of the creative process, in which metal and the craftsman's know-how play the leading role. This collection questions the relationship between the artisanal product, the work of art, and the industrial product. Slovenian designer Nika Zupank is renowned for her intuitive, eclectic approach, and her creations stand out for their punk elegance. Her evocative universe plays on archetypes of femininity. Her glamorous, almost sensual creations are tinged with irony. For Alessi, she created the Edges collection. The series is made up of elegant pieces in Stainless steel, all featuring delicate edge work reminiscent of a lace braid. For this project, Nika Zupank wanted to explore the iconic and immediate character of certain elementary details, such as the small perforations aligned around the edges of the pieces. For the designer, it wasn't so much a question of finding a purely ornamental expression, but rather of creating a deep bond between the user and the object: the kind that can arise from a simple, easily understood element capable of generating an immediate emotional impact.
